67's lose 5-4 heartbreaker in Kingston, still in playoff hunt

The Kingston Frontenacs scored three unanswered goals to defeat the Ottawa 67’s 5-4 in overtime.  The 67’s gave up a 4-2 lead with less than 5 minutes remaining in the third period sacrificing a much needed two points.

Lightning prospect, Henri Ikonen opened the scoring for the Frontenacs.  Converting on a bad 67’s line change, Corey Pawley slid the puck to Ikonen in the slot and he made no mistake but to re-direct it behind Philippe Trudeau in the Ottawa net.  After hitting a couple posts, the 67’s capitalized off a wide rebound.  Dante Salituro snuck in on the short side to tip in the rebound tying the game at 1.

The 67's Pull Off a Close One and Win 5-4 in OT

Travis Konecny scored his second goal of the game at the 14:43 mark of the second period.  In the midst of their most important game of the season, the 67’s had a commanding 4-1 lead late in the second period.  Things looked good until the Steelheads score three unanswered goals (including two from Sean Day) to tie the game with less than two minutes left.

GAME DAY: 67's host crucial playoff implicating game against the Steelheads

With 6 spots claimed for the Eastern Conference post-season already, it leaves a dog fight between 4 teams for the final 2 spots.  One point seperates 7th and 9th position while 10th is just 5 points behind.  The Mississauga Steelheads are currently sitting in 7th place, one point up on the 67’s through 62 games each.
