67's Shootout Win Against Kingston - Pre-season

Badly outplayed for the majority of the game, the Ottawa 67’s managed to squeeze their second straight win and remain undefeated (2-0-0-0) in the pre-season. 67’s rookie, Nathan Todd, scored the game tying goal and the game winner in a 3-2 shootout win against the Kingston Frontenacs Friday night in Smith Falls.

While Todd had a great night on the scoresheet, it was the 67’s rookie netminder who stole the show.  Leo Lazarev, the 67’s second round pick from this year’s draft, stopped 41 of 43 shots fired his way in his OHL debut.

Despite the 67’s being outshot 12-6 in the opening frame, the game remained scoreless until midway through the second period where the Frontenacs scored two goals to give them a 2-0 lead.  Veteran Samuel Schutt opened the scoring while OHL rookie Chad Duchesne followed shortly after.

Dante Salituro gave the 67’s some more hope when he scored with less than a minute into the third period cutting the Frontenacs’ lead to 1 goal.  Four minutes later, Todd notched the game tieing goal.  The 67’s hung on through the final 12 minutes and the shootout to defeat the Fronteancs.

Some more good news for 67’s fans is that veteran defender Mike Vlajkov made his return after missing all but 2 regular season games with an injury last season.  Star forward, Travis Konecny also made his pre-season debut after not playing the first game on Saturday night vs the Gatineau Olympiques.

The 67’s are back in pre-season action on Sunday in Brockville where they face former 67 Brett Gustavsen and the Belleville Bulls

(A quick note about photos this year....due to another commitment, I won't be at every 67's home game.   I will be at as many as I can though.  Kathryn and Alex will continue to bring you outstanding game summaries.)
