Welcome To Ottawa, Brad Staubitz and Jamie VanderVeeken

Press release from the Official 67s' site (link):

The Ottawa 67’s have obtained 20 year old defenceman Brad Staubitz, and 18 year old left winger Jamie VanderVeeken from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in exchange for Tyson Aitcheson and Brody Todd

Staubitz is in his Overage year in the Ontario Hockey League and guards the right side on the blueline. The Bright’s Grove, Ontario native is listed at 6.01” and 208lbs and was selected by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the 8th Round of the 2000 OHL Priority Selection.

VanderVeeken is a young forward who started the season in Toronto with the St. Mike’s Majors. At 6.02” and 222lbs, VanderVeeken will add plenty of size to the 67’s forward line. The Wallaceburg, Ontario native was selected in the 8th Round of the 2002 OHL Priority Selection by the Guelph Storm.

“We look forward to having these two join us at practice tomorrow” said 67’s Head Coach and General Manager Brian Kilrea. “It’s difficult to give up players, but I think this strengthens our blueline and we have added some size up front.”

Sad to see Brody Todd go - he's been having a good run lately, getting his rhythm. Hopefully things will work out for him in the Soo. I'm not sure that this is the end (trade-wise). Killer said that this was it in his post-w/e interview this afternoon, but in an interview last week, he said that they were still waiting [on announcing the trade] on players who were away with World Juniors and potential injuries - which have no bearing on these four players. However, he did say that they were also waiting on the OHL to resume normal operating hours. So, maybe this is it. I don't know. The rumours are still floating on the BBs, and with Killer you can never tell. He did say that if something or someone becomes available that he is interested in, he would consider it. The new boys will be at practice tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing them this Friday.

I'm excited to see him in Ottawa. The first game he played, our defence actually looked better . . . and he'd only been here a couple days then.

He had a great night last night against Belleville. Scored, first star. Looking forward to seeing how he plays against our biggest divisional competition tomorrow night.

I know that it's hard for a guy to leave a team he's been with, but hopefully he'll come to like Ottawa.
