This 'n That

With a bit of time to kill on a Monday night, I decided to cruise the internet for Ottawa 67s tidbits. Training camp starts this week and it's time to looking forward to the season ahead. Right now most of the news is related to NHL teams. Stories with an Ottawa connection:

Sharks' talent pipeline keeps flowing

The San Jose Sharks have done a superb job finding talent at all stages of the Entry Draft and developing those picks into legitimate players. Most of the team's roster is home-grown -- on average, 17 of 23 players with the team last season were drafted by San Jose.

See the rest of the article here. Ottawa 67s figure prominently in the Sharks future.

Jason Bailey is first (alphabetically anyway) among Ducks prospects (I guess we can forgive him for being drafted by the dirty ducks). The Duck rookies will play the Sharks rookies in Vegas in September. Here's that article from the Duck's site. It will be familiar faces but in different jerseys!

And, as reported on the Ottawa 67s site, Corey Cowick (who hasn't even reported to the club yet) got some good news from the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was signed to an Amateur Try Out (ATO).

That's it for now. Hope to see you soon around the rink.

Jamie McGinn's jersey has been reassigned so that's a pretty good sign that he will not be returning to major junior this year. I thought he might show up at least to start skating. Perhaps he already has pre-Sharks camp plans in place.

That leaves the question of who will wear the "C" this year. My vote is for Thomas Kiriakou. I know that Couture is a favorite of many and I don't have any particular issue with that but I think Thomas is the better candidate.

It will be interesting to see if Matt Lahey sticks this year. He has had such a rough time with his shoulder.

Not that I want our short summer to end but I sure am looking forward to the start of the hockey season.

Cheers!
