Ottawa Adds Cazzola, Dubois Out, Toffoli Player Of The Week

The Ottawa 67’s have made the final adjustments to their roster as the trade deadline has passed and overaged Center Mike Cazzola is on his way to the Nation’s Capital. Ottawa also gets a 12th round pick this summer and gives up a package of draft selections; 5th rounder in 2013 2nd rounder in 2014 and a 7th rounder in 2015. Cazzola, a center who’s name was linked in rumours with the 67’s all season (note the section at the bottom of this article about Erie), has racked up nine points in twelve on the Erie Otters who have spent the season in 20th place.

This move comes at the expense of overaged forward Ben Dubois. Ottawa released him shortly after the trade which is no doubt a very hard pill to swallow. Without Dubois, Ottawa is losing a hard-working, penalty-killing forward that won the Memorial Cup as a rookie with Windsor. Ultimately, the Belle River native lost out to the number game. Forwards such as Remy Giftopoulos, Nicholas Foglia and natural defenceman-turned-forward Taylor Fielding don’t take an overaged spot and can play on Ottawa’s bottom two lines.

With Cazzola, the 67’s add more scoring depth to an already offensive attack. For the first time this season, Ottawa is now four lines deep at center with Sean Monahan, Tyler Graovac, Foglia and Cazzola. The recently acquired John McFarland is also a capable center, giving Ottawa a solid four lines even if the injury bug hits them up the middle again.

Cazolla is expected to make his debut Friday night when the 67’s take on the Peterborough Petes at home. We want to wish Ben Dubois all the best in his future endeavours, and we welcome Mike Cazzola as Ottawa hopefully makes a run for a championship.

Finally, congratulations go out to Tyler Toffoli who was awared OHL Player of the Week for his five goals and five assists in three games this past weekend. Another feather in the cap of Ottawa’s top scorer. Toffoli only sits one point back of Tanner Pearson for the OHL lead.
