The Oshawa Generals are back in town to face the Ottawa 67’s for the third time this season. The Generals have a 2-0-0-0 series lead winning a game at home and a game on the road.
The last game against the Gens in Ottawa was a rough one for the 67’s. Cole Cassels, son of former 67 Andrew Cassels, had a 4 goal night contributing to a 7-1 Gens win. Defense, discipline and specialty teams were a big issue. The 67’s allowed 46 shots, 8 powerplays and 4 goals on those 8 powerplays. Sam Studnicka scored the 67’s lone goal. Game review here.
The 67’s effort in Oshawa was much better and probably deserved a better result. After a hearbreaking loss against 5-3 loss against the London Knights, the 67’s stormed into Oshawa buidling off the game prior. The 67’s were able to force the Generals to overtime but ultimately fell 3-2 after a Michael Dal Colle goal midway through the extra frame. Game review here.
The 67’s seemed to turn things around a bit since that game. Despite a hiccup last game against Barrie, the team has a great compete level and the defense has tightened up. Some of that can be looked to getting Adrian Sloboda back on the blueline after missing several games due to injury.
Last game against Barrie looked like the 67’s took a huge step back. The 67’s allowed too many shots and their discipline also took a hit. The 67’s appeared to get back into the game late in the second period where hard work rewarded Tyler Hill with his 6th goal of the season. The 67’s managed to get under Daniel Gibl skin but were unable to jump on the rattled goaltender early in the third period. The 67’s collased in the third period allowing 4 goals on 13 shots. The 67’s look to regroup tonight and build on their last game against the Gens.
The Gens are the crop of the East, sitting comfortable on top with 48 points in 32 games. The Sudbury Wolves sit in second with 36 points In 30 games. While the Gens are doing well, they are only 6-3-0-1 in their last 10 games. The 67’s will have to be on their game to get past goaltender Daniel Altshuller. Other than the Erie Otters and London Knights, the Oshawa Generals have allowed the least amount of goals (tied with Soo Greyhounds).
The Gens also boast two of the top 5 scorers in the OHL. Michael Dal Colle with 54 points in 32 games and Scott Laughton with 48 points in 28 games. While the Generals have been great offensively, Dal Colle and Laughton have earned most of their points (nearly 50%). The next highest scoere is Cole Cassels and Josh Sterk with 34 points each.
If the 67’s are able to shut down the top line, they will have a much better chance at winning.
