GAME DAY: Ottawa 67's host the Peterborough Petes, game 4 of the season series

The Ottawa 67’s host the Peterborough Petes for the second time this season.  With a record of 3-0-0-0 and outscoring the Petes 19-7, the 67’s have had a relatively easy time against the Petes.  However, same was said for the Belleville Bulls who they faced last game.  The 67’s fell 4-3 in regulation.  While they nearly made a comeback, they found themselves underestimating the Petes and took an early 3-0 first period deficit.

Slow starts have been common for the 67’s club.  While the Petes have been beatable, they still have a core of talented players that can make you pay for small mistakes.

The 67’s and Petes met twice in Peterborough in late October and early November.  The Peterborough Memorial Centre has proven to be kind to this 67’s club.  The 67’s outscored the Petes 16-5 through these two games.  The last game in Ottawa was a 3-2 shootout win.

It’s been nearly 3 months since the last time the Petes have been in Ottawa.  There have been a couple changes to both lineups.  For the Petes, no longer with the team is Steven Trojanovic who was traded to the Guelph Storm early in the season.  Another notable is Matej Paulovic , the Petes former 1st round selection from the 2013 CHL Import Draft.  After a strong pre-season, he was released from the team after failing to produce in regular season.  The move also allows younger players more opportunities to play.

The 67’s loss to the Bulls on Friday night has now become costly.  The loss combined with an IceDogs win pushed the 67’s back out of a playoff position.  With the Petes sitting 6 points up on the 67’s in 7th place, tonight’s game is very important.  A win will push the 67’s over the inactive IceDogs for the final playoff spot and within two of the Petes for 7th.  The 67’s have a couple more chances to take a lead over the Petes as they currently have three games in hand.

As mentioned last week, there is a lot of hockey left to play, but the 67’s will need to start stringing wins together if they want to secure a spot in the playoffs.
