Preview: Peterborough Petes @ Ottawa 67's - Oct 6/13

Ottawa 67's overage forward, Ryan Van Stralen, tallied his first two goals of the season bit it wasn't enough and the 67's fell 7-4 to the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday night. The powerhouse Fronts got off to a quick 4-0 start, but the 67's started to show more promise at that point.

In similar 67's fate, Stephen Nosad scored a pair of goals in the Peterborough Petes' 7-4 loss to the Sudbury Wolves.  This added a loss to the Petes 3-3-0 record so far this season.

Both teams are off to a bit of a disappointing start so far this season. But both teams appear to be committed to make the playoffs. This is an important divisional game.

It is beneficial to get off to a good start. The 67's have not been able to do this yet and they have very top heavy home schedule. Last season, the Petes started off terribly, but started to show promise towards the end of the season.  The Petes had a good run, but at the end of the season they missed the playoffs for the 3rd straight time by only one point.

Already trading away the likes of Slater Koekkoek & Alan Quine before the end of last season; the Petes started to clean house like the 67's did with Cody Ceci, Steven Janes, Tyler Graovac and several more.

Missing their leading scorer from last year, Brett Findlay, the Petes will rely on Stephen Pierog & Nick Ritchie to provide offense. Luckily for him, Ritchie has found success vs Ottawa already with 10 points in 7 games last season.

Both the 67's and Petes are young teams that have several returning players. These players have gained a lot of experience and played more minutes than they would with powerhouse teams. This creates more depth on the team as there are more young guys on the team who are now OHL ready. Being a young team puts pressure on all the players knowing that their spot could be easily up for grabs.

One big roster change for the Petes occurred on Oct 4th. The Guelph Storm acquired overage defenseman  Steven Trojanovic in exchange for a 3rd round pick in the upcoming OHL Priority Selection. The Pittsburgh Penguins returned Clark Seymour to juniors for his overage season.  This move put the Petes over the 3 overage maximum and Trojanovic became the odd man out.

This afternoon should be a hard battle between two clubs that have a lot to play for early in the season.
