Game Recap at Peterborough (08-Jan)

Ottawa loses 4-1 to Peterborough.
See OHL game summary here.

PRE-GAME NOTES
So, the 67s game was not on The TEAM 1200 for the first period d/t the NFL wildcard game. So, we listened in, via internet, to the Peterborough call via The Kruz. And this was an interesting eye-opener.

QUOTES AND PERSONAL NOTES ON AUDITORY IMPRESSIONS
First period.
Right off, the 67s get a penalty (0:19). Wow. The Petes got a 4 minute PP (Hulit, high sticking), and according to the Commentators, they didn’t register a shot on net! Good job defence.

“Smiling like a butcher’s dog,” commentator says of Young (PET), when he got his first OHL goal. “A good hard wrist shot, top corner.”

Sounds like the Petes are getting a lot of good shots on Battochio now though.

Bonello draws a penalty!

Kaspar just tried another two line pass – a Petes player touched it though. He needs to get back into NA style.

Sounds like a lot of penalties in the first. A call on a Peterborough player for running into Battochio – they’re still doing it to him!

Bickell runs Kaleta, “major interference”. The Petes take objection to it. Joslin apparently takes objection to the objection, throwing in an elbow . . .

Okay – this is just pathetic. The Kruz commentator, on Killer getting the refs attention prior to a face-off, states, “When was the last time you saw the game stop just as the puck was about to be dropped for a face off, so that the ref from way over on the other side of the ice could skate to the coach’s bench because he wanted to talk the them?”, and “We all know that Killer’s got a nice understanding with the refs around the league.” Now he’s saying that Killer was “not happy” about the fact that they had the time wrong for the Ottawa penalty – too much time. But wait! Killer’s got that “nice understanding” going – shouldn’t the refs be making sure that they get the penalty time right for the coach who has such a “nice understanding” with the league refs? They still have one minute up on the time clock, but there are five players on the ice because the time is legitimately served . . . but the refs aren’t making mistakes because Killer has a “nice understanding” with them, right? Asshat. (By the way, I wonder if this is related in some way . . .)

More penalties against Ottawa . . . oh yeah, it must be that “nice understanding” thing again.

I’m so switching this off – enough with the Kruz dudes. I need Schreibs!!! Please, Seattle, don’t tie the Rams . . . (Sorry Seahawks fan!)

Second period.
The TEAM 1200 broadcast starts at the beginning of the second. Schreibs is on his own – AJ is back in Ottawa.

It sounds like the penalties are continuing – Ottawa just finished their 5th, the Petes just getting their 6th. And the Petes score on this one.

Kaleta and Bickell fight. Once again, Bickell’s helmet comes off first. “I’d call that draw,” Schreibs says.

Battochio gives up a weak one, a dribbler through his legs – so in comes Guadagnolo. Battochio allowed 3 G on 13 SOG.

"A very disappointing performance by the 67s tonight", says Schreibs. Great. They’re back to their sloppy ways.

Staal just scored on Guadagnolo. 4-0. It definitely sounds as if the 67s have reverted. I do not think that they can pull themselves back into this game.

Schreibs says, “The Petes have just taken right over here. The 67s held up pretty well over the first period, but the Petes have scored 3 unanswered here in the second.”

VanderVeeken heads to the P-box. If they can’t score with their full contingent, they sure as hell won’t be able to with 4.

Some more picture-painting quotes from Schreibs, “After the changes Brian Kilrea made, this is truly a disappointing performance by the 67s.”

Petes playing well defensively. Looking solid – which is pretty easy when you play an inferior team . . .

Ottawa being out-hit by Petes.

Bonello just got himself a 10 minute misconduct. “That’ll mess up Ottawa’s lines for awhile.”

Petes dominating in the second period.

The 67s get a PP, and they put out the 4th line. This gives a clear indication of their present situation . . . Oh boy.

Third period.
“The 67s have not challenged on this drive.” Schreibs speaking about the 67s PP to start the third. Says the 67s are “woeful.”

Petes are dominating the 67s. Sounds like same-old, same-old to me.

Hulit scores. His 20th goal. A career high. A rebound from Reid. 4-1.

Some more penalties for Ottawa – Colbert, and for Peterborough – Reddox.

“Joslin turns it over again,” Schreibs says. “It’s amazing how much the 67s have let the Peterborough forwards come out from behind the net, and leisurely shoot at the net. Boy oh boy, this wasn’t supposed to happen after the trade.”

Colbert steps out of the box – only to get called for hauling down a Pete.

More penalties coming . . . delay of game . . . pushing net off moorings . . . oh, how low they’ve sunk . . . can’t win by playing, try to not lose too bad by cheating . . . (I hate it when players kick the net off . . . the Russians were doing it during the World Juniors.)

Another fight – Staubitz and Flowers.

“A woeful performance by the 67s, and an important test for them.”

And I think this last quote from Schreibs just about sums it up, “This was very easy for the Peterborough Petes tonight. Almost like taking candy from a baby. Peterborough just dominated in all phases of the game tonight.”

Post-game Comments.
Petes are 1/10 on the PP. Ottawa 0/4.

“The 67s were beaten handily by the Petes.”

“Hulit, at least breaking the SO bid. That’s all they were able to accomplish.”

“Very, very disappointing.”
