67s pick up a goalie

In the 2006 CHL Import Draft, the Ottawa 67s picked up 17-year old Swiss goaltender Lukas Flueler. The 6'3", 190 lb goalie was on the roster for junior hockey team Kloten, but doesn't appear to have played any games for them in 2005-06. Head Coach Brian Kilrea is quoted in the Ottawa Sun saying that some NHL scouts have seen him and tipped him off that Flueler could help the 67s.

Killer will let him compete with Brady Morrison for the starter's job this year. Hopefully Flueler can turn into our #1 goalie for the future. However, if neither of them can do the job this year, expect Kilrea to go out and trade for a #1 in the first month or two of the season.

Lukas has international experience with the U18 Swiss team where he went 5-0-1 in the U18 Division I, Group A tournament in Hungary and had a 2.00 GAA and .917 SV%, albeit not against the powerhouse U18 teams like Canada. He was the second best goalie in the tournament after Matija Pintaric of Slovenia. Flueler also played in the 2006 Viking Cup tournament in Alberta, where he was named his team's star for a couple of the games.
