Interview with the (Assistant) Coach

Assistant Coach Chris Byrne was on the line today rather than Brian Kilrea (no reason given).

Losing all three games this weekend was disappointing - they were three tight checking playoff type games. The defensive play was good but Ottawa just couldn't find the goals (2 goals in 3 games). While not the results they had hoped for there were some bright spots in the play of some of the guys. He thought they had their best game on Sunday even though they had a few guys out of the lineup (they had 5D and 9F). Courchaine was the third star in both road games. No complaints about the guys in net.

The team has to put the puck to the net more and just keep it simple on their power plays. If they can get Bailey, McGinn and some other guys back in time for the playoffs and playing to their capabilities, the scoring could pick up again although the returning players will need some time to get their timing and confidence back. They could hit their stride during the playoffs.

Jon Carnevale has had a good return from mono; he and Martindale were two of the better forwards this weekend.

The team is not worrying about who they will meet it the playoffs. They are trying to get back into the playing form they were in during December when they beat Belleville and Oshawa each twice.

The tough road trips are done for the year. There’s one trip to Belleville this week and another trip to Kingston next week; the remaining 4 games are here in Ottawa.
